Georgetown RISE — A UN Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development

Promoting Our Natural Resources

This is a citizen led effort to protect Georgetown County’s natural environment, heritage, and pristine resources. It is the intent of this committee to enable preservation of our beaches, tidal creeks, wildlife, heritage trees and forestlands, wetlands, and river ecosystems. This group plans to promote our natural resources as a flood mitigation tool, by utilizing the benefits provided by our natural resources such as wetlands and trees in Georgetown County.

One of the first projects of this committee is the Growth on the Waccamwaw Neck efforts, looking at the rapidly increasing population and density along the narrow Waccamaw Neck, which has current projections of growth to include an additional 10,000 people by 2030, a 50% increase in population.
